If you want an accurate, versatile sight picture on your rifle or carbine, LPVO scopes are a great choice. Whether you need a hunting scope that lets you use your tags or a tactical scope that’s ready for competition or self-defense, they offer the speed, accuracy, and precision you need. They may look a lot like your grandpappy’s scope, but there are some very good reasons why these modern optic evolutions of the telescopic sight should have a place on your short-to-mid-range firearm of choice.
Low Power Variable Optic
LPVO scopes are more formally known as Low Power Variable Optics. In many ways, they bridge the gap between red dot optics and traditional low-powered scopes. They usually have an adjustable magnification between 1X at the low end and 8-10X as a maximum increase ratio, and they feature adjustable windage and elevation like traditional scopes. They also have powerful and efficient LED emitters that illuminate an etched-glass reticle, providing a brighter, visually distinctive aiming tool that helps speed up target acquisition and improve accuracy.
LPVO Scope Benefits
Between their blending of traditional design and modern engineering, LPVO scopes come with a host of benefits for gun owners.
- Adjustable Magnification – The ability to quickly adjust between magnification strengths is perfect for engaging targets at different ranges in the field. This foundational ability helps set up these powerhouses for more dynamic usage in the field.
- Terrain Adaptability – LPVO scopes work well in a variety of settings, from urban to rural. Their flexibility makes it easier to account for brush, quickly evolving tactical situations, and situational awareness needs on the fly.
- Environmental Resiliency – The shockproof, waterproof, and fogproof design gives you a hunting or tactical scope built for the real world, and the illuminated etched reticle seamlessly transitions through lighting ranges with a clear sight picture.
- Acquisition Speed – At low power, LPVO scopes allow for lightning-fast snap shots. For longer ranges, the shooter can balance accuracy and speed to find the best solution for their skill level and preferences.
- Accuracy – Once zeroed in with the adjustable windage and elevation turrets, these scopes provide superior accuracy throughout their magnification range thanks to precision-ground telescopic lenses. Meanwhile, the etched reticles make it easy to account for bullet drop and wind shifts in the field with greater confidence.
- Reliability – LPVO scopes are made for rugged use in a variety of conditions and use solid-state LED emitters to illuminate an etched reticle. That means they’re real-world ready for rough handling while providing a sight picture that makes every shot count.
LPVO Scope Use Cases
These key benefits make LPVO scopes perfect for a variety of uses where versatility, accuracy, and speed can make a big impact on your shooting.
Short-to-Mid-Range Hunting Rifles
If you’re looking for a hunting scope that’s perfect for big game, small game, and everything in between, an LPVO has you covered. The variable magnification allows for accuracy at a variety of ranges, while BDC reticles make it easy to drop targets wherever they are in your gun’s effective range. The flexible magnification also makes it easier to account for aiming through brush and cover, while the rugged design is ready to tackle the elements that try to take you out of the hunt.
Tactical Rifles and Carbines
In dynamic tactical situations, you need the operational flexibility to move through ranges, ambient lighting levels, and areas of cover while maintaining an effective sight picture that also doesn’t compromise situational awareness. LPVO scopes excel at adapting through transitions while still offering rapid target acquisition, accuracy, and precision for follow-up shots. LPVOs are reliable, durable, and perfect for urban scenarios that can move from daylight to dark corridors as conditions evolve.
Competitive Shooting Events
An LPVO scope’s ability to adapt also makes it a favorite for competitive shooting events, where you might need speed, accuracy, or a balance of the two. From static marksmanship at a variety of ranges to dynamic tactical competitions that see you moving through a tactical course, they give you the mix of features you need for higher scores and quicker times.
The All-Arounder
Whether you call it a ranch rifle, house gun, or your SHTF gun, some weapons need to be ready to do a little bit of everything because you never know what they’ll be up against. Versatility, reliability, accuracy, and durability are all needed to make sure your optic is ready to rock and roll at a moment’s notice. If you can only have one sight on your rifle or carbine, LPVO scopes make a strong case for the job.
The Guardian Line of LPVO Scopes
We built our Guardian line of scopes to give you better, more cost-effective LPVO scopes for hunting, competition, or personal defense. They build on our popular line of reflex sights by including our rough-and-tumble durability matched with precision-ground lenses that give you the magnification you need.
1-10X28mm and 1-8X24mm SFP
Our second focal plane (SFP) Guardians offer either an 8X24mm or 10X28mm maximum magnification. Both use a BDC (Bullet Drop Compensation) reticle etched on the second focal plane, meaning that the reticle stays the same size even as the target enlarges. The BDC easily accounts for range variation for consistent shot placement on your target. Thanks to the consistent reticle appearance, this also allows for quicker shots at any range.
1-8X24mm FFP
The first focal plane (FFP) 1-8X24mm Guardian uses an etched Christmas tree-style reticle that enlarges along with the target image under magnification. This makes it excellent for long-range shooting, especially, but since the reticle marks maintain the same suspension to the target regardless of magnification, it also allows for greater accuracy under any magnification. It can take a little more range work to get comfortable with the more complex nature of the FFP scope and the more detailed reticle, which allows for more on-the-fly windage and bullet drop flexibility, but the results are well worth it.
